It's raining, it's pouring...

BOO. HISS.

I woke up to the sound of rain this morning. Just before I leave for my mini break. I tried to stay optimistic - people are forever telling me about 'lake effect' weather in this part of the world, so I went off to weather.com to see if there might me a freak heat wave by the lake.

Nope, constant rain til Tuesday, which coincidentally is the day we're coming home. I may need to stop and get some indoor toys for the monkey. And books for me.

But it does give me a chance to show you some of the extremely cool vintage rain gear there is hanging around etsy. You gotta hand it to people who can stay stylish even when it's peeing it down.

Vintage Mod Multi Colored raincoat $46 semprevintage.etsy.com

Vintage 60s Navy and White Raincoat $60 garconniere.etsy.com

Aren't they fab?

While we're on the subject of rain gear, a quick, ever so mild word of warning regarding 'titanic' era umbrellas - I've seen many 70s umbrellas being passed off as much much older, and for ridiculous prices. Please do your research if you want to buy antique umbrella.

Fabulous Friday: Beach Day

In the on going saga of house buying, yesterday I received the most giant package of papers from the bank. I men HUGE. It wouldn't even fit in the post box, my dear post lady had to knock on the door.  So I spent yesterday afternoon reading them, and today, I'm going to attempt to understand them.

Sigh.

But, the main reason I need this out of the way is because I'm off the the lake for 3 glorious days. I'm so excited, I feel like I've not had a holiday in ages and ages. In honour of my long over due vacation, I give you my favourite beach finds:

vintage 1950s Sun Kissed 2 piece swimsuit $44 VintageCalling.etsy.com

 Colorful Picnic Set $44 joevintage.etsy.com

Retro Camper Hand Painted Bag $85 clpstudio.etsy.com

Retro South Beach Pin Up Girl Head Band $10  anickascottage.etsy.com

I seriously can't wait.

Also, you might have noticed the little pocket shop hiding over there ------------>
It turns out my shopping addiction can't be fed without paypal getting filled up once in a while, so I'm going to start selling stuff on a very limited, this will not control and consume my every waking moment and cause me to neglect my child basis.

But it's AQUA

I am utterly and completely behind on all things blog related.

I have 6 posts half finished, photos that want editing, and a list of items a mile long that I had planned on featuring last week.

Why? Am attempting to buy a house. Apparently it's all rather complicated, and not helped by the fact that American isn't my native tongue. It appears that know one knows what an Estate Agent is, and that 'solicitor'  has rather negative connotations (actually - that's true in England too). It tends to make what should be short conversations turn into lengthy translations and discussions about where I grew up.. sigh.

But it will be worth it. Let me show you why I have to have this house:

Oh yes. It's aqua. The Realtor (see, I'm learning) laughed when I asked if I could make an offer on the stove even if they wouldn't take the offer on the house. I wasn't joking though.

Other fun features include this FABULOUS wallpaper in the bathroom:

And a totally finished attic what will be my new office:

Please, please, everyone keep all fingers and toes crossed, and remember me in your prayers - I can actually afford this house, and there aren't any rats, termites, or holes in the floor.

Trends: Lovely Linen

I'm on a self imposed shopping ban right now.

I'm looking for a new house at the moment, and in preparation for the move, I'm trying to get as much sorted out now that I can. Yesterday, I attacked my wardrobe. How on EARTH do I have so many clothes? I think I'm going to make it a mission to wear something completely different every day for the next two months. I may even take pictures after I get my camera back.

Anyway, my latest love after finding things that I'd forgotten I had is linen. In the back of my closet I found a really cute cropped linen jacket which I seem to remember getting 4 years ago. There's something about the fabric which is just timelessly elegant.

Look what I grew!

By myself.

In the ground.

With seeds.

I'm very proud.

It was actually a perfect day to play in the dirt - I'm so fair that usually I can only go a few hours in the full sun before burning, but yesterday was cool and overcast, so  managed to get the carrots, peas, beets, broccoli and peppers all weeded.

As much as I complain about weeding, I actually love the simplicity of it - weed, not a weed, weed, not a weed. It would be really nice if the same thing applied to life, but I generally find that the things that look good tend to turn out to be weeds, and the stuff you think is worthless is the harvest.

It's really annoying.

Wardrobe Wednesday: World Traveller

Vintage Globe $100 IntoDumpsters.etsy.com

I have escape on the brain right now. I'd seriously like nothing better than to put my finger on a map and get on a plane. It isn't going to happen, but that doesn't stop me planning my outfit ;)

Tuesday Trends A Bit of Boho

As summer is finally arriving in full force, a trend I love that seems to come back year on year is boho thing. I always picture summer in my mind like an old Polaroid from the 70s, all deep and golden - so here's some 70s flare to add to your summer wardrobe :)

Oh the Shiny...

I often wish I had occasion to wear the pretty dresses I have, but somehow right now, my life doesn't exactly lend it's self toward satin cocktail dresses, 40s gowns, or killer suits.

However, I know that somewhere there's a home waiting for these things, where they'll be loved, cherished and adored :)

Lessons in Gardening

I spoke to my mother today, bless her, for some reason she had it stuck in her head that melons grow on trees.

(They don't just in case anyone else is under a similar delusion)

I totally get that growing things can be a kind of abstract concept when you grow up and live in big cities, but I've always loved planting things. I love the idea that a tiny little seed turns into a giant plant, I love that you can read the instructions on the packet, and if you follow them, it'll grow.

I even love weeding. There's something just so satisfying about pulling them. Sometimes when the rows are crowed, or there's been a lot of rain, it's hard to tell what should be growing and what shouldn't. The only way to do it really is to pull away all the things you know are weeds, picking them all off one by one until you can see what should actually be there. Even the Shepard's Purse - you know it's going to sting, but you just have to suck it up, because it shouldn't be there, and if you let it lose, it'll over take everything.

I started some peas way back in March, and today, I just noticed I have one tiny little pod. It may be a simple thing, but it does show me that life is still carrying on as it should.

And if nothing else, this deer will always be my friend - he comes to see me whenever I walk pas, and tries to lick me through the fence. Most likely because I've spoiled him with apples over the years, but I like to think he likes me.

Friday Finds: Airstream Living

I love Airstreams. Ideally I'd own like 5 of them and have them be all different rooms in a disconnected house. Of course that wouldn't work up here in the frozen north, but maybe down south somewhere.

I've seen some seriously cool stuff done with the insides of them too - Magnolia Pearl - who I love btw - did hers up beautifully:

You can see the full sized pics on her blog, which is also amazing, here:  http://magnoliapearlblog.blogspot.com/

I especially love the claw foot bath. In an Airstream. That's what I'm talking about my friends.

Personally, I think I'd cover the ceiling in vintage maps - like these from VintagePaperWorks:

 Antique 1887 Map of Burma/Siam $10

And put up lots of lace curtains - I particularly like these from FadedGrandeur:
Pair of Vintage French Filet Lace Curtains $49.90

Since I'm not one for ott girly really, I'd probably offset the lace with more industrial fixtures, I love this lamp from TheDirtyLoft:

  Industrial Metal Hanging Lamp $60

I know storage would be an issue in such a small space - but check this out from BellaroseSignature:

Vintage Greek Key Brass Mail Boxes $250

They're only 15 inches deep, which would be perfect.

I can haz?

Wardrobe Wednesday: Summer Wedding

I'm sure we all know people getting married this summer - I know two of my favorite people are tying the knot in September (hugs you two) - so I thought I'd dedicate today to a perfect outfit for just such an occasion.
