Friday Finds: Party time!

Okay, as some of you know, I'm off to Tennessee today to visit my dear dear friend HauteCountryVintage.

I'm so excited. If you'd like to read the background on the pair of us, the Storque did an article a little while back - you can find it here:

http://www.etsy.com/storque/handmade-life/etsy-love-stories-best-friends-who-have-never-met-7323/

All of which puts me in a party mood, and I was lucky enough to be sent a link to this amazing site:

http://eventsualitiesblog.com/miscellaneous/oh-for-the-love-of-gin-and-smoke/ which inspires my finds today.

Lekiah designed the most AMAZING MadMen themed table for a competition, and how fabulous would it be to create your own?

Thankfully, she didn't buy up all of Etsy's Mid Century Modern stuff - so here's the best of what's left :)

Ben Seibel Mikasa Hacienda Service for 6 $175 JBirdHome.etsy.com

(This would make a seriously cool center piece)

Vintage Lead Glass Bowl $25 MrsPsHome.etsy.com

I'll be checking in later with photos from my trip, right now I have to go finish packing!

Thrifty Thursday: Oops

Another fabulous way of finding bargains on Etsy is looking for 'Oops' listings. These are generally items where the end result is ever so slightly flawed, and not up to the sellers usual standards.

Which means that if you're willing to over look the mistake, you get a beautiful piece at a fraction of the cost :)

These made it into my favs today:

Chai Tea Latte Soap Bar OOPS $2.50

Sunday Specials: My new favorite things

As usual, I hit the thrifts and estate sales yesterday with my dear husband. Bless the man, he doesn't really get it, but he still comes along with me, and keeps the wee one occupied while I hunt.

I didn't find much for the shop yesterday, however, I did find some fabulous things for me :)

Like these:

I'm totally in love with the typewriter - it's that wonderful 70s aqua blue colour - we had a mini argument about it as it has a crack on the back corner, and dear husband couldn't get it to work in the shop. I kept pointing out that I have an amazing contraption called a computer what types things, and I didn't care if the typewriter worked. I guess we both won really, because after I'd finished getting the groceries in the fridge I found this in the typewriter:

Bless his little cotton socks.

Friday Finds: My Perfect Bedroom

So we've just been told that our landlord is selling up - so we're gonna have to make some decisions pretty sharpish. We desperately want to build a house over at the farm - but that's gonna take some saving. In the mean time, I've been dreaming about my perfect master bedroom....

(no one is allowed to buy this - I want it)

One day my dears.... One day.

Thrifty Thursday: PIF

I'm often amazed by all the good will my fellow etsy sellers have - an example is the HUGE collective shop heartsforhaiti, who have raised over $30, 000 for doctors without borders and their work in the earthquake devastated Haiti.

Today's Thrifty Thursday is going to focus on Pay It Forwards (PIFs). The rules are simple - you buy something for next to nothing in exchange for paying it forward - you do something nice for someone else.

Here are some of the beautiful things:

And some of the....um.... stranger.....:
(if you buy this, please tell me what you do with it)

Enjoy!

Friday Finds: Fabulous Swim Suits

As the weather heats up, all I can think about is lounging by a pool somewhere - and what better way t do it than in one of these fabulous suits?

This beauty from Archiva is totally on my wish list - and sadly way out of my budget at $289 - but a girl can dream...

From the handmade corner, I adore this retro looking bikini - sadly I have nothing in the chest department - so I can't imagine it would look as good on me as on the model.

One that's been in my favorites for ages is this adorable 60s bikini - I love the print and that it's a reasonable size for tiny people like me:

My ultimate finds for the serious collector though are these:

Thrifty Thursday - Bargain Alert!

You can get some seriously good deals around etsy if you're persistent. I'm being good and have put myself on a shopping ban, so here are all the bargains which would be coming to live at my house if I was in the shopping spirit:

Wardrobe Wednesday: Proms For Princesses

I always think American girls are so lucky - you get to dress up like princesses many times during High School.

At home there's only one formal dance around graduation - I think it's a shame.

The main reason for this theme today is the most amazing dress I've ever seen - seriously - you all need to go have a look at this:

Brought to you by PranceAndSwagger - it's pricey, but if you want a dress that can be passed down and gain giant amounts of value - it's the dress for you.

Another Stunner - this one is a Ceil Chapman (!) from houseoflemoore

For those extreme girly girls amongst you, check out this one from johnnyvintage - they even have a picture of the original owner wearing it:

This last one is reserved for some lucky girl - but it's worth going to havwe a look for the amazing detail at the shelf bust - they just don't make dresses like this any more:
