Trends: Lovely Linen

I'm on a self imposed shopping ban right now.

I'm looking for a new house at the moment, and in preparation for the move, I'm trying to get as much sorted out now that I can. Yesterday, I attacked my wardrobe. How on EARTH do I have so many clothes? I think I'm going to make it a mission to wear something completely different every day for the next two months. I may even take pictures after I get my camera back.

Anyway, my latest love after finding things that I'd forgotten I had is linen. In the back of my closet I found a really cute cropped linen jacket which I seem to remember getting 4 years ago. There's something about the fabric which is just timelessly elegant.

Trends: Aquamarine

As it's going to be staying in the mid 90s this week in Upstate NY, I can't help but be reminded of exotic beaches and beautiful blue seas.

I pretended yesterday - I took baby Blythe up to the lake and started on teaching her to swim. Thankfully she isn't afraid of the water, she adores it in fact, which is great as I'm far more of a water sports person than anything else - in fact I think I'm going to take a long weekend soon and go kayaking, I've not been out in ages and I fancy it.

But there is nothing that says sunshine and summer to me more than aquamarine - try it - you'll feel so cheerful :)

Trends: Camping!

Growing up in Hong Kong, camping seemed like the most exotic of holidays. No, really, I'm serious. Outdoors for us was going on hikes through the country parks, or up into the New Territories, and if you did 'camp' it meant staying in government built concrete hut things.

So sleeping in an actual tent, with a real camp fire (not a government issue concrete grill) seemed terribly exciting. And unlike that snow stuff that everyone made such a fuss about, when I got older and moved away, it turned out to be just as fun as I thought.

In fact, during college, myself, Lally, Drew and Colin (hi boys), used to sleep out on the beach for fun., campfire going and Colin with his ever present guitar. Great fun.

Tuesday Trends: Ribbon Embroidery

I think my favourite thing about the twenties is the beautiful embroidery that can be found. I've always loved cross stitch and ribbon embroidery, and I've recently started adding some pieces to my shop.

It makes a lovely romantic touch to any outfit or theme in a room, and etsy artists are picking up the trend accross the board:

Tuesday Trends : Twirl!

If there's one thing every girl should own, it's a crinoline.

'I can't wear a crinoline!' I hear you cry - yes, you can! You don't have to be a stick insect to wear one either - you just have to pick a length to suit your shape, and balance the skirt with a suitable top.

If you're very thin, you can wear a short, very full crini, and balance it out with a top that has a bit of pouf to the sleeves:

Tuesday Trend: Lovely Layers

Have you ever wondered what to do with your huge collection of vintage slips and robes? Okay, maybe it's just me that has an entire chest dedicated to my collection, but let's face it, there are only so many nights in a week.

Here's the thing, they don't need to stay in the bedroom! Oh yes - you can show off your pretties without people asking you if you forgot to put your dress on (unless of course you know my father in law - in which case I can't help you).

The key is in layering. You want to stick with  things in the same colour range, for example, pastels with pastels, jewels with jewels to keep the whole look flowing. Also, mix textures, add woolens, leathers and cottons to bring your nighties into the light - if you wore a bright red slip with black robe and black tights - you'd look like an extra from Moulin Rouge.
