New Stock for Spring

In between my DIY and craft projects I have actually been listing stuff amazingly enough. I had an awesome haul the other day which I'm working through - so far, this is my favorite:

It's a beautiful dark dark blue 40s day dress with a spring floral prints that includes butterflies. The best bit is the draped detail on the skirt - someone spent a lot of time on the details of this dress. And it's even a bigger size - 44 bust, and in pretty much perfect condition.

Sometimes I have a hard time listing certain things, like 70s blazers. My considering nearly every dress in my closet has a blazer over it, I sucked it up and decided to sell this one:

Again, perfect condition, and just beautifully made.

This weekend I'm on a mission to organise my attic, which doubles as my storage space and office -I really want to paint and knock down the exsisting waste of space built in closet that's up there, so everything's going to have to get moved downstairs for a few days. I did however see this awesome idea for craft storage on Pinterest the other day:

And I do actually have a framed piece of peg board downstairs that I could use.

I have no idea how far I'm going to get being as Sunday is Easter, But I figure I can at least get the room cleared so I can start right?

Spring 2012 - Boho Gypsy - Get the Look

Boho Gypsy - what's not to love? Emilio Pucci's Spring 2012 show brought it to the forefront with gorgeous prints and flowing skirts. I'm particularly in love with the red off the shoulder number.

Photo Shoot Fun

The last few weeks have been CRAZY. In between packing, sorting out the new house, and the entire household catching the flu, I feel like I've not had time to catch my breath.

However, I did manage to squeeze in the most FABULOUS photo shoot in the world with the ever talented Rome Celli. The star bar that he is managed to get permission to shoot at a gravel pit here in Rochester, a seriously cool location.

He also wrangled up two of the most beautiful models I've ever seen - Devin and Anna, who were just total superstars - the day of the shoot was 95 degrees and glaring sunlight, but they still managed to looking stunning.
 
Our make up artist Tiffany and hair stylist Jacquelyn pulled out all the stops and created looks that tied all our ideas together - they are super talented ladies and enormous fun to work with.

I'm slowly listing the outfits from the shoot in the shop, but here are some of my favs:

It's raining, it's pouring...

BOO. HISS.

I woke up to the sound of rain this morning. Just before I leave for my mini break. I tried to stay optimistic - people are forever telling me about 'lake effect' weather in this part of the world, so I went off to weather.com to see if there might me a freak heat wave by the lake.

Nope, constant rain til Tuesday, which coincidentally is the day we're coming home. I may need to stop and get some indoor toys for the monkey. And books for me.

But it does give me a chance to show you some of the extremely cool vintage rain gear there is hanging around etsy. You gotta hand it to people who can stay stylish even when it's peeing it down.

While we're on the subject of rain gear, a quick, ever so mild word of warning regarding 'titanic' era umbrellas - I've seen many 70s umbrellas being passed off as much much older, and for ridiculous prices. Please do your research if you want to buy antique umbrella.

Trends: Lovely Linen

I'm on a self imposed shopping ban right now.

I'm looking for a new house at the moment, and in preparation for the move, I'm trying to get as much sorted out now that I can. Yesterday, I attacked my wardrobe. How on EARTH do I have so many clothes? I think I'm going to make it a mission to wear something completely different every day for the next two months. I may even take pictures after I get my camera back.

Anyway, my latest love after finding things that I'd forgotten I had is linen. In the back of my closet I found a really cute cropped linen jacket which I seem to remember getting 4 years ago. There's something about the fabric which is just timelessly elegant.

Shop Feature HauteCountryVintage

So you all know that Holly of HauteCountryVintage is my bestest etsy friend, but quite apart from being just generally lovely, she has one of the most fabulous shops on etsy.

I seriously don't know how she can let go of some of this stuff, if it were in my house I'd never be able to let it go.

I mean - this 1920s step in is even a plus size - flipping amazing.

This 50s dress very nearly made it home with me - it's STUNNING. Loves it.

Wardrobe Wednesday: But it's cold....

I am the first to admit that I HATE this weather. Hate it. And what I'd truly like to do is hibernate until the sun comes out again.

A Very Vintage Halloween

Okay - I know August isn't quite over yet - but more and more I'm thinking about Halloween.

It's such a big deal here compared to home - I actually love that everyone goes all out and... well... American on it. I'm thinking of making Baby Blythe a sea fairy outfit - I came accross a ton on blue and green tulle at the thrift there a while ago, and sear Holly just sent me a pattern for a tutu - so am all set with that.

I also have a TON of fab costume ideas in my shop, 70s jumpsuits, medival princess costumes, and even a white and silver vintage Ballerina TuTu which would make the most perfect fairy costume ever.

My camera's back!

So the manual focus on my camera went a bit funky, and I had two send it in for repair. Two long weeks later it's back! I was so excited this morning I took a load of photos of the stock that's been building up - and I got a chance to play with the new eye shadows I got from the ever lovely MixologyMakeup.



Check out this AMAZING 1940s dress I found - I'm totally in love with it....



And this tweed wiggle which has been sitting in my wardrobe for ages - I adore it - but it's just not warm enough for New York winters.....

I honestly can't believe that this is my 100th blog post!

It can be hard working from home - trying to structure your day without getting distracted, dealing with house stuff as well as work stuff, and really having very little social contact - which is why I love on my etsy friends.

The 90s Revival - Why Lord, Why?

So I was browsing ebay the other day - and noticed they've added another era to the vintage women's clothing section - 90s, Grunge, hip hop.

Why they consider the 90s vintage is beyond me - but that's a whole other discussion. What struck me was why on earth would anyone want to revive the early 90s? I mean - Beverly hills 90210:Circa 1990

Oooo I want to look like them! Or Saved By The Bell - the College Years:

Dig the hat...

And as much as I love Friends - season one was... interesting.... fashion wise.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but I just think the 90s is best left behind.
