Bargain - Photo Pendants

Ye all know I have a...thing... about photography right? The warm fuzzies I get looking through photography shops on etsy is on par with the excitement of browsing through 20s dresses, or fabulous vintage lingerie - pulse quickens, hands shake... sometimes I even drool a little.

Sadly, my budget stops me from buying an awful lot of what I love, although after I've dealt with this house business I plan on a major shopping spree. A HUGE one.

For right now though - and I have no idea how it took me so long to discover this - I've found that lots of my favourite photographers have collaborated with jewelery makers and had their prints turned into pendants.

So for much less monies, I can WEAR my favorite shots all day long. Yes, simple things make me happy.

I love how build-able it is, I love that it's natural, and doesn't look caked on. And I REALLY love that sellers offer sample sizes so I can play with pretty colours without going bankrupt.

Another fabulous way of finding bargains on Etsy is looking for 'Oops' listings. These are generally items where the end result is ever so slightly flawed, and not up to the sellers usual standards.

I'm often amazed by all the good will my fellow etsy sellers have - an example is the HUGE collective shop heartsforhaiti, who have raised over $30, 000 for doctors without borders and their work in the earthquake devastated Haiti.

Thrifty Thursday: Slip Dress

With the sun arriving back again in most places (74 today here! yay!), I'm starting to seriously think about my summer wardrobe.

I'm also on a very tight budget as I think most people are right now, so today I thought I'd share some of my favorite slips with you. Vintage slips tend to be under $20, and if you choose cotton fabrics, it won't look like you've forgotten to get dressed.

Thrifty Thursday: Children

Happy Thursday :)

With the economy the way it is, I know a lot of parents are going to be struggling to get toys and presents for their children this Christmas.  So I thought I'd share with you so things that my daughter adores that are fun, inspire imagination and self learning, and won't break the bank.

If you're a sewer, I know you'll have tons of scrap fabric around, but even if you aren't, raid everyone's wardrobes for clothes that don't fit, are stained, ripped whatever, and cut them up - I made this fab play mat for my daughter in a couple of days out of scraps, old shirts, and some left over polyfil from a cushion my cat scratched up. The base layer is from a vintage wool coat that had irremovable stains on. And if you don't sew, no worries - a tube of fabric glue will set you back about $5 and works just as well :)

I think most kids love mini things - so why not get some blank peg people?
